Climate in Jammu

   

Jammu is the winter capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu borders Ladakh in the east, Azad Kashmir in the west, Kashmir in the north and Himachal Pradesh in the south. Sandwiched between Daman Koh Plains in the south and the valley of Kashmir in the north, the Shiwalik Range constitutes the majority part of Jammu. The Trikuta Hills, the Pir Panjal Range and the Tawi River basin contribute to enhance the diversity and beauty of Jammu.

 

Jammu district has a sub tropical climate with hot and dry climate in summer and cold climate in winter.Being in the foothills of the mountains, nights are generally cooler than what they are in the neighbouring areas of Punjab. Minimum and Maximum temperature is around 4 Degre Celsius and 47 Degree Celsius respectively.

Rainy season usually starts from the end of June or the beginning of July. Average rainfall in the district is about 1246 mmThe climate in Jammu is tropical by nature. From July to September, this region gets about 107 cm of rainfall. Temperatures in Summer may vary from 23.4degrees C to 43.0 degree C. On the other hand, in Winter, temperatures may move in the range of 26.2 to 4.3 degrees C. However, at times, temperatures may even droop further quite a lot making it really hard to enjoy the beautiful snow fall. The best time to visit Jammu is from October to April. Jammu is quite popular as a site for pilgrimage tourism as it plays host to some of the famous Hindu shrines in India. Many tourists also come to this place simply to enjoy heaven on earth. So, it goes without saying that this place gets a heavy footfall round the year.

If you are in Jammu during Summer, wear the light cotton fabric and move around comfortably. However, during winter, don’t forget to bring your Heavy and Medium woolen dresses. Armed with proper garments, make sure to visit the stunning Sheesh Mahal and the Amar Mahal Palace Museum in Jammu.
